How to Clean Battery Corrosion in Toys

The biggest problem with many rechargeable batteries is that they will develop what is called battery corrosion. This is where the metal starts to corrode away from the metallic shell over time. This can be a big problem as you will then need to have them repaired or disposed of. Some batteries will just need to be cleaned though. So how do you clean battery corrosion?

One of the first steps in cleaning your battery is to make sure you are not leaving any water on it. You also want to avoid touching the batteries as you can cause some very small scratches in the battery. If you drop anything onto a battery, be careful and try to catch the falling object. This may not seem like much of a chore, but if you drop something like battery cleaner into water, even tiny particles can get into the pores of the battery and cause corrosion. It’s important to clean the battery before putting anything else into the battery.

You can clean battery corrosion by using baking soda. Mix the baking soda into a bowl, and then place the battery into the solution. Leave it for about an hour or so, and then use a battery charger to full charge the battery again. This will allow you to fully charge your battery again.

Some toys like balls or wooden trains will start to rust after being left outdoors for extended periods. This can be avoided by always drying them off properly. It is also advisable to protect the tracks from rust. Wrap the tracks with plastic wrap or duct tape. When storing these toys outside, remember to wrap the tracks first, and then store inside in a dry place.

Other toys like trains and helicopters can suffer from battery corrosion. These toys are best stored with the blades locked away in storage. To clean your battery charger of this build up, you should drain the battery completely, and remove all of the covers. Then, wash the battery with warm water, and allow it to completely dry. Before recharging, it is good to make sure that you do not expose the blades to moisture.

If you are storing your batteries correctly, you should not have any problems with corrosion. However, if you take proper care, they should last for many years. Cleaning is easy, but regular maintenance is vital. You should also pay attention to the charging and discharging of your batteries to prevent damage.

There are many battery cleaning products on the market for toy enthusiasts to choose from. Many of these cleaners are made to clean batteries gently. Some cleaners will remove hard mineral deposits, which can cause your battery to lose its ability to hold a charge. These cleaners will also remove any excess oils that can clog the vents on your battery, and prevent it from working as well as it should. There are also battery cleaners that have special cleaners designed to eliminate bacteria, which are great for you

nger children. These cleaners are made out of natural ingredients, such as baking soda and soap, and are safe for use on any type of battery.

If you know the type of battery you have, or if you are unsure, you should always test a new battery before cleaning it. This way, you will know for sure that you are removing any buildup of rust or grease, which can actually shorten the life of the battery. If you decide to clean battery corrosion in toys yourself, there are several different methods available. One method is to use a cotton swab with a small amount of ammonia solution, to gently rub the corrosion away. You could also try using a battery charger and water to help remove the build up, and then replace the battery before charging it again.
